Prom Dress Styles and Silhouettes
The silhouette decides how a dress fits through the bust, waist and hips, and how much room you have to move. Here is how our main styles differ:

A-line: fitted at the bust and widening gradually from the waist. A straightforward shape that is easy to dance in.

Mermaid: fitted through the hips and thighs, with the skirt flaring near the knee or below. It is the most structured of these styles.

Ball gowns: a fitted bodice with a full skirt. Think about the venue and how you will get there, because the skirt takes up space.

Fitted: close to the body from top to hem.

Little black dress: a simple base that works with bold jewelry and shoes.

Prom Dress Trends for 2027
Designers have released their 2027 prom collections, and a few details repeat across them. The trends below come from two published sources: Sherri Hill's Spring 2027 runway report (September 2026) and Jovani's 2027 prom report, which tallies orders from its authorized U.S. retailers between June and October 2026. The percentages describe Jovani's own orders, not every prom shopper.

Corset bodices. Sherri Hill's runway put structured corset tops on nearly every skirt shape, from full ball gowns to fitted styles. Use the Corset Lace Up option under Back Styles in the filters to narrow our selection.
